Discipline & Conduct

Merit Polytechnic College emphasizes the development of character, discipline, and responsibility among its students. Every student admitted to the institution is expected to uphold the values of honesty, respect, and integrity both inside and outside the campus.

  • Students should maintain discipline and decorum at all times within the college premises.
  • Politeness and courteous behaviour towards staff, fellow students, and visitors are mandatory.
  • Students should not indulge in activities that may tarnish the reputation of the college.
  • Any form of ragging, eve-teasing, or harassment will lead to strict disciplinary action, including dismissal.
  • Students must refrain from participating in political, communal, or religious activities within the institution.

Violation of these rules will result in penalties, suspension, or expulsion, depending on the seriousness of the misconduct.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is an essential part of academic discipline at Merit Polytechnic College.

  • Students must attend a minimum of 80% of total working hours in each semester to be eligible for the Board Examinations.
  • Absence from class should be supported by a valid leave letter sanctioned by the Class Advisor or Head of Department.
  • Students who are absent without prior permission must meet the Principal to explain the reason before being allowed to re-enter class.
  • A fine of ₹10 per day will be imposed for unauthorized absence.
  • Attendance shortages will strictly affect examination eligibility, internal marks, and scholarship continuation.

Punctuality is expected at all times; students must reach their classrooms 10 minutes before the commencement of sessions.

Dress Code

Students are expected to present themselves neatly and follow the prescribed college uniform on all working days.

  • Uniforms promote equality, discipline, and a sense of belonging.
  • Students should maintain personal hygiene and wear ID cards at all times inside the campus.
  • On Saturdays or special occasions, students may wear formal attire with prior approval.
  • Torn jeans, flashy accessories, and indecent dressing are strictly prohibited.

Adhering to the dress code reflects professionalism and respect for the institution’s culture.

Cleanliness & Campus Behavior

The college campus is a clean, green, and smoke-free zone. Every student shares the responsibility of maintaining this environment.

  • Students should avoid littering and dispose of waste only in designated bins.
  • Writing or scribbling on walls, furniture, or classroom boards is strictly prohibited.
  • Damage to college property will result in a penalty equal to the cost of repair or replacement.
  • Students must behave courteously in classrooms, laboratories, hostels, and public areas.

Respect for shared spaces ensures a healthy learning atmosphere for all.

Use of Electronic Devices

To maintain focus and discipline, the following rules apply:

  • Mobile phones are strictly banned within classrooms, laboratories, and library areas.
  • Students using mobile phones during class hours will face confiscation and disciplinary action.
  • Portable music players, cameras, or any other electronic gadgets are not permitted unless approved for academic purposes.

The college encourages responsible use of technology only for educational enrichment.

Interaction & Communication

Merit Polytechnic College encourages open communication among students, faculty, and administration.

  • Students facing personal or academic challenges may approach the Principal or respective Tutors for guidance.
  • Visitors are not allowed inside the campus without permission.
  • Students are not permitted to attend personal phone calls or meet visitors during class hours.

The college fosters a culture of mutual respect and effective communication through proper channels.

Prohibited Activities

The college maintains zero tolerance for any behaviour that disrupts peace or safety.

  • Consumption or possession of tobacco, alcohol, or narcotic substances within or outside the campus is strictly prohibited.
  • Smoking, gambling, or indecent conduct will lead to immediate suspension or dismissal.
  • Encouraging others to engage in such behaviour is considered equally punishable.
  • Students should not engage in group conflicts, caste-based discrimination, or personal altercations.

Code of Conduct for Co-Education

As a co-educational institution, the college expects both male and female students to maintain mutual respect and decorum.

  • Communication between genders must remain academic and courteous.
  • Exchanging gifts, personal items, or private conversations beyond academic purposes is strictly forbidden.
  • Students must uphold the dignity of their peers and the institution at all times.

Violation of these norms will attract disciplinary measures as deemed necessary by the Principal.

Principal’s Authority

The Principal holds full authority to enforce disciplinary measures, including warning, fine, suspension, or expulsion, in the best interest of the institution. The decision of the Principal in disciplinary matters shall be final and binding on all students.
